Who We Are and How We Got Here

The Book in 1 Sentence

A history from the perspective of our genes.

Brief Review

I just finished First Platoon and it talked about something that made me think of this book and I realized that I never wrote a review for this. This book provides some outstanding reasons that we are all the same people and dispels a lot of the myths that I grew up hearing or being taught in the south.

Why I Read this book

I don't remember why I chose this book. Probably a 2-for-1 deal. It was worth the credit for sure.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

It's about a year ago that I read this so this review will be short as the details are very limited in my brain and I know it was informative, but VERY technical.

That would be my chief complaint for sure about this book. I remember getting lost in the technical of time periods especially when referenced later in the book. Think terms like mesio-Jurassic period (I think I made that up, but things like that). How am I supposed to remember the people during that time or where they lived type deal.

What I really like about the book was the conversation about historical and current groups that have tried to use genetics for nefarious purposes like the Nazi and their Ubermensch project for the "perfect" man.

Rating

Overall, this was a really good book. It was highly technical, but the is the beginning to explain the basics. The end of the book is where it really gets interesting. I highly recommend this 7 of a book. It might be higher if I could remember it, but I won't go back and read it.
