The Dark Knight Rises

Synopsis

After years of taking a back seat to the justice in Gotham, the city has become corrupt for a whole new reason. This leaves room for Bane to continue the legacy and mission to destroy Gotham of Ra's al Ghul.

Review

This is another Christopher Nolan masterpiece and in my opinion better, the story is better than The Dark Knight. The hard exception to that hot take is Heath Ledger. He kills it, but we aren't talking about that in this movie.

Christian Bale's deep voice is better this time, not as pressed. However, there are times story wise where people know that Bruce Wayne is Batman, but he still uses the voice or says "my friend" wants to help. I don't understand it, but hey maybe they are all just being coy.

Anne Hathaway is, obviously, outstanding. I recently learned that she learned to do the backflip off the window to make the scene feel more authentic rather than just to fall out of sight like a 1950s movie. Tom Hardy got "swoll" as the kids say for this movie and you can see the just absolute PRESENCE he is on this screen. You cannot look away from him at all.

I think what hurts this movie is the fighting. The scene with Bane and Batman is awesome, but the fighting makes no sense for 2 people who have a history of knowing EVERY fighting style ever. Bane's whole purpose is to be brutal and fast, but 5 months after having his back broken, Batman works him like playing with a puppy.

I love this story out of the three movies. It is the longest, but the most complete and well conceived story. I think this comes from Nolan having to rewrite the last movie after Heath Ledger's death and gave him time to really feel out the story.

My Rating

I didn't put this up above, but Michael Caine is once again just grooving in this movie. He is just outstanding and in my opinion, plays a great father for everyone. This movie is an easy 9 that is so close to a 10 that I am going to give it a 9.5. There are just a couple things that I can't get past, but the story is just so good.

Parental Rating

There is zero family values in this movie. While Batman is doing exactly what Batman does and protects the innocent, there is no family mentions, therefore my mom is out. My dad on the other hand does enjoy this movie. He likes Batman from back in the day and this is a great representation of the Frank Miller era of Batman. Dad approves, Mom Rejects.
