Path of the Assassin

The Book in 1 Sentence

A stop forward into a plot hole filled book that is full of action and unrealistic saves.

Brief Review

While this book is entertaining, some of the plot holes and plot points are highly predictable making this book a miss in an exceptional line up. However, this was the second book in the series and so learning does occur for the author making this an acceptable miss.

Why I Read this book

I am re-reading the series.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

The Lions Of Lucerne was the first book in this series and with that in mind, this is a great follow up. If I remember correctly, it might be the only real direct sequel. Like the Bond movies, these books typically will end with an overall mission, but nothing that was directly related to the previous movie. This book starts basically with the continuation of the previous ending.

I enjoyed this book. Brad Thor, awesome name, does a fantastic job of writing action scenes that provide a visual picture as to what is going on. This means that you are more than capable of seeing this like a movie in your brain. One of the complaints I had in the previous book was terminology and I didn't have that issue with this book.

The issue I did have is much like Indian Jones, the ending scene could have been done whether Scot Harvath was even there or not. His presence doesn't do anything other that fill in the blanks. Even then they are pointless blanks that you don't need. Also one of the characters suddenly speaks Italian fluently, but its just thrown in there. The other plot hole I have is the description of the main baddy. Early in the book, other than the description of the eyes, the details given do not match later revelations or descriptions. It is like it was changed halfway through writing.

Rating

This book is entertaining, but doesn't leave you wanting to go back. The title doesn't really match the story. Kind of. It is good, I enjoy it, but like I said previously Brad's early books are a work in progress. This one is a 6, but it sets up the next section of the series that is important.
