John Wick 2

Synopsis

The direct continuation of John Wick that continues days later and is a direct consequence of the first movie. John must repay a debt that sets him up to upset the balance of the High Table.

Review

This movie is basically part 5 and 6 of the first movie. On it's own, it doesn't have the same level of punch to the story or the pacing that was in the first movie. Part of that may be the level of expectation we all had for this. However, knowing how the rest of the series goes, this story is pivotal to that continue story.

The gun play is just as good as the last one and we also get to see the "death by pencil" kills and it is glorious. Gratuitous violence is the name of the game for this movie.

As for acting, Keanu of course did an outstanding job, there are a couple characters that I felt were unfortunately dismissed before they could have made a grand stand. Ruby Rose and Common. I know people hate Ruby Rose and in general she isn't the greatest, but she does an outstanding job. He use of sign language is someone who started learning it later in life. However, he charter doesn't make sense. Is she deaf? If so, how did she know where here charge was in the mirror room? It doesn't make sense. I thought maybe she was mute, but she clicks her tongue at some point. Common on the other hand was a great character here. One dimensional, but a great sticking point and competitor to John. He seemed equal in skill, but John's experience is what won the last fight.

My Rating

I really enjoyed the movie. It is solid sequel to the stunner of the first. There isn't much difference between the two movies with Keanu really just sealing his position as John Wick. This is a 7 only because this movie really feels like a continuation of the first.

Parental Rating

There is blood, gore, violence, language, and realistic depictions of assassinations. My mom once again will not watch it. My dad I think would enjoy this one a bit better since the language is a little less. Approved by Dad and Rejected by Mom.
