Haunting Adeline

The Book in 1 Sentence

A book that works to justify rape and sexual assault as ok due to the assaulter's day job being more altruistic.

Brief Review

It's a terrible book. Rape, sexual assault, and degrading material are outrageous and the author should be ashamed at an attempt to make it ok because the stalker is in "love" with the victim. This feel of crap is also added by the overwhelming amount of juvenile writing in the descriptive language that repeats itself excessively.

Why I Read this book

My wife and I were wanting to read a book together that was in line with October and the spooky season.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

If you watched [[Twilight]], you will know that there is a line in one scene where she is reading a poem that talks about fire and ice. That phrase is repeated roughly 50 times throughout the book along with something pushing "electricity" through their bodies.

Overall, the writing feels like a book written by a high schooler that was told to use more descriptive words as everything has a child's amount of vocabulary and is constantly repeated. It is frustrating to hear that alongside the overall attempt at justifying rape and sexual assault.

The main character is honestly stupid and the amount of internal justification she does goes beyond anything people do. The whole book is working to show you that trauma bonding, Stockholm syndrome, and why people stay with their abusers rather than doing the smart thing of taking care of themselves.

The stalker also has the most "because plot" that I have ever read. He just is the perfect hacker and the perfect fighter. Never missing other than the first time, knows more than his teachers about hacking within the year. Also, for a dude that works to release women from pedophiles and abusers, for him to abuse Adeline and being ok with it means based on his morals, which he "decided his own morals," he should have put a bullet in his brain. That would have made this book good.

Rating

Do not read this book. Do not allow for this author to put drivel into the world. It is a 3 that is so morally corrupt in its writing that it isn't worth the read. Stay away from childish writing with sexual assault and rape being fantasized. It is a 1 because there were times when it was decent and the story would have been better suited if it was just a tag team taking down pedophiles. Otherwise, this catastrophe would be a 0.
