Synopsis

Matt Damon plays the Nike rep that works his ass off to get Jordan his first shoe deal when entering the NBA. As Nike is a new brand at the time, this is more than an uphill battle, it is an uphill battle against the Titans of old, but due to events in the other brands at the time, they make it work.

Review

I want to get something out of the way before we even begin to talk about this movie. I don't care about sports 9 times out of 10, but I do love a good sports movie. Since the Colosseum in Rome, sports have been a pivotal part of human society and any sport that can keep people entertained is worth watching at least once. On the note of basketball, Michael Jordan is the best player there ever has been and still is as of this writing. While I highly doubt that there will be another Jordan in my life time, I will die on the hill that says Lebron isn't even close. No matter how much he floats himself as the "King," he is nothing more than a jester when looking at him compared to the greats. He is good, just not as good. What are my credentials on this statement, I watch maybe 1 basketball game a year combined (Mostly highlights) and the number one highlight I see is "Lebron flops," or "Lebron doesn't play because of X" and then go look at Jordan playing and winning with the flu, or playing and winning after his Dad died. Lebron worked hard to create a super team and still couldn't always make it work. Enough about this argument though.

This was a great story. Having known of MJs deal with Nike, I had no idea where Nike was or what the other bids were. I know there is going to be a lot of creative license with this story, but even 75% true or relatively true, it is amazing what an honest assessment and doing what is right for the people you are working with can do for them and the industry.

Matt Damon, Chris Tucker, Jason Bateman, and Ben Affleck do an outstanding job playing their characters. To be honest, I felt like any Ben Affleck and Matt Damon movie is going to be good because of their friendship and that is always fun to watch.

My Rating

I really enjoyed this movie. It was solid story about the family and not the prime figure about what is honestly BEST for the industry as a whole. The acting was great and funny and entertaining. 8/10.

Parental Rating

Language, lots of it. My dad would be out because he doesn't like some of the actors and their reliance on a particular phrase that they use constantly. My mom honestly might watch it as it tells a great story focusing on the importance of family all being all in on what is best for the family.
