Brief Review

For a book that no one wanted to publish, what a way to swing for the fences with a new story line, a new word, a new mythology, and a new set of powers that the common world will understand. The characters do a great job of playing into themselves and while the book is slow at times, it is still a good book for an adult.

Why I Read this book

This has to be a childhood favorite and since I was driving for 8 hours straight, this felt like a good time to restart the series.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)\

This is a really great start to a very good series. Even as a kid I was so excited about the next book and that feeling still sits with me even today. I know the story and still find things that I have forgotten or Easter Eggs to future books/additional storylines we get in the future. There is one line that I really want to point out that I will reference in a later book, but I want to point this out. In the fight scene between Harry and Voldemort (Which I don't understand why the British don't pronounce the "T"), Voldemort states that he killed Harry's father and then his Mother. I will mention this down the line, but I want to make sure that I call it out now.

The story is excellent. A great way to introduce the fear that the villain has had on the world and the deep history that was exploited. You can feel early on the separation of the non-magical folk and the wizarding world which doesn't hurt the book and adds to the mental separation that Harry has with the community. However, his abuse at home explains the excitement and quick joining at the wizarding world.

The characters, obviously, are so well received, so well written, and show so much promise. I think the fact that the kids are around the 11-year-old mark doesn't really play too much into the story and I think that actually helps the story because you are not distracted by what they should or should not be doing as 11-year-olds.

Rating

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me very entertained on my drive and I never really felt like it raddled on. It is a really enjoyable book that you want to read. I am honestly not sure why it wasn't desired by publishers. It is a little repetitive at times and there is a feeling that you should know the rest of the series to understand some of the characters interactions, but nothing heavy. This is an 8.
